The historical building currently housing “Horowitz Apartments” was built in 1830s by famous Lviv architect Paul Eutele. It still retains its best elements: Empire style frontage, Middle Age underground passageways, oak made Austrian doors and Amour and Psyche bas-relief above the entrance.
The house was built for the Horowitz, a prominent Galician family, which produced a lot of famous lawyers, doctors, musicians… Several Horowitzs where well known rabbis in the region of Western Ukraine and Poland. One of a family members was the President of Lviv Trade Chamber for forty years, well respected and recognized in the business community. Another member of Horowitz family, named Jida, founded Fur shop “Horowitz” on the ground floor of the building. Building itself belonged to many generations of the family prior to World War II.
